500 refugees looking for a few good creatives

By Allan Botica: You can sell iPhones and ice creams to anyone. When it comes to banking, building and baby products no one can touch you. You’re GOOD! But can you make a compelling pitch for a refugee or two? How about 500?

#500 now is looking for few GOOD creatives who can use social platforms to build support for New Zealand to take 500 more refugees annually. Because refugees enrich NZ. And right now, this island nation looks pretty poor. We take 1000 refugees each year. That puts us 96th in the world per capita. And worse still – 117th – if you take GDP into account: there are 116 countries poorer than New Zealand that take more refugees.

The campaign is supported by musicians, photographers, filmmakers, churches, students – and a number of very high profile politicians of all complexions. Its objective is simple: persuade candidates across all parties at this year’s election to commit to taking in 500 more refugees each year. That’s about the population of Opononi, give or take a dolphin or two.

“Develop a social campaign to make this happen. And do it without pictures of squalid camps and suffering children.”

So whether you’re good (talented) or Good (caring), here’s the challenge. Develop a social campaign to make this happen. And do it without pictures of squalid camps and suffering children. Make it funny. Subvert. Flip stereotypes. Make it entertaining. Create. If we didn’t take in refugees we’d have no John Key, no Nicky Hager and no Vogel’s bread.

One more thing: there’s no budget. (But, if you’re smart, you already knew that.)

So if you’re GOOD and interested, get in touch with Arwen Vant arwenv@botica.co.nz or +64 21 484 232 and she’ll outline the campaign and send you a creative brief.
