Auckland commercial music production company Smoke has appointed Sarah Fabrin to manage its marketing and sales. Fabrin has a background in model, retail and music management – she wrangled models and curated for NZ Fashion Week.

“We’ve found that musicians are always more formidable when they hunt in packs,” said ceo Mark de Jong (who has received a QSM for services to music). “Smoke is your creative backing band; a posse who have spent decades in the music industry and are committed to helping you nail every part of your career.

“We call Kingsland home, which is fitting seeing as it’s the recently-crowned songwriting capital of New Zealand. Drop in to our basement offices sometime. We’ve got coffee, home-brew and an office playlist that’s been sweated over more than the Rolling Stone Top 50.”

Smoke is a full-service music agency offering management and commercial music production.

Brandspand steals Rich Adams from NZME

Albany-based portable display & exhibition company Brandstand has recruited Rich Adams to head up their new activation production division. Previously, he was head of experiential at NZME.

“The new division is aimed at providing brands with best in class experiential & event production services, without the drama,” said marketing manager Jason Wills.

“Identifying a gap in the market between clients/agencies and manufacturers, this division, headed by Rich, will deliver creativity, production, logistics and superior project management, all under one roof, he said.

“It will deliver end-to-end services out of one large production and warehousing space in Auckland – everything managed in one place by experts, from initial production through to on-site build and then on-going storage and maintenance.”

Adams previously spent time at Orange Productions, Brand Spanking and more recently NZME. Before arriving in NZ he founded Sense, an awarded UK experiential agency, as well as Event Warehousing & Logistics, a specialist exhibition and logistics business servicing the experiential and exhibition market.

Brandstand GM Keiran Frost said: “Rich and I worked together at Orange and share the same thoughts on the importance of experiential marketing.

Rich Adams said: “The Brandstand team are unique in having so much experience under one roof. Add into the equation their global relationships with suppliers and partnerships with local businesses and you have a very strong offering. This new division will marry creative thinking, technical expertise and full service in a way not seen in New Zealand previously. I’m looking forward to offering our services to brands, media houses and agencies and flexing our muscles a little. Watch the show unfold!”

Marketo enlists new ANZ marketing director
Sydney-based APAC marketing software provider Marketo has appointed Chris Connell as managing director across NZ & Australia.

Prior to Marketo, Connell headed the APAC marketing at e-invoicing company Basware, where he developed regional marketing plans that focused on fuelling the company into the next stage of its growth.

“Our key objective has always been to continuously invest in our ANZ operations”, said Marketo ANZ MD Bill Binch. “Chris is laser-focused on helping marketing professionals drive business growth, which aligns perfectly with our core values. We are excited to have him join the team.”
