Clemenger BBDO NZ picked up three Gold Pencils at Australia’s AWARD Awards held overnight in the Sydney Town Hall. Clemenger’s Mistakes won Chairman’s Choice; and Colenso BBDO’s Matt Lawson was named Creative of the Year. DDB Auckland was named NZ agency of the year.
A record number 32 Gold Pencils, 96 Silvers and 127 Bronzes were presented. Auckland-based Robber’s Dog and Finch were included in the Top 5 Production Companies list.
Whybin\TBWA Melbourne led the way with six Golds, Saatchi & Saatchi Sydney followed with four Golds and Clemenger NZ’s three. Also scoring three Golds were DDB Group Melbourne, JWT Sydney, Leo Burnett Sydney and Red Fuse Communications Hong Kong.
Colenso BBDO and FCB New Zealand both received two, and DDB Group NZ, M&C Saatchi Sydney, Ogilvy Beijing and Song Zu scored one Gold apiece. DDB Group NZ was named one of the five best agencies at AWARD.
“There were some of the fantastic pieces of work here,” said chairman of judges Dan Wieden: “The thing about Mistakes was the choice of talent on camera – two men of different levels in the society and a child involved. The whole concept of the accident stopping, the parents getting out and talking to each other was so compelling it just broke your heart when it was over.”
The award for Network of the Year went to Leo Burnett, with Leo Burnett Sydney taking the prize for Agency of the Year. ANZ topped the list for Client of the Year, and Revolver/Will O’Rourke took home Production Company of the Year.
This year’s judges included FCB’s James Mok and former Aucklander Toby Talbot (DDB Sydney).
