DDB’s Born to Defy makes Gunn’s Cannes top 20

The Gunn Report has launched its Cannes Lions Sweepstakes 2015 – a contest to predict which ads will win a Film or Film Craft Lion at this year’s festival in three weeks (on Saturday 27 June). Participants make their selections from 20 TVCs pre-chosen by founder Donald Gunn. One NZ commercial made the cut – DDB’s Steinlager Born to Defy, the tale of Kiwi William Trubridge’s attempt to break his own unassisted free dive world record.

Out of the 5000-plus Film and Film Craft entries submitted this year, fewer than 200 are expected to win a Lion trophy, Gunn says. He did not say how his Top 20 was selected, and his choice may prove to be wide of the mark (think NZTA and Toyota, for example).

Deadline to enter is midnight Wednesday 24 June. The five highest scorers will each win one year’s subscription to www.gunnreport.com (normal price £295/NZ$414), or where a winner is already a subscriber, free Gunn Report Books for two years (same value).

The jury get the Short List during the festival; and winners and prizes will be announced in the week after Cannes (watch this space –Ed)
