The PR Shop Auckland led the April Fools idiot charge at the weekend with a truly awful spot for client SodaStream, who used it to launch their new product, SodaSoak – a gadget which fizzes your bath water. Yeah, right!
“We’re just passing this on in case you’re thinking of doing any roundup stories on pranks this year,” reads the release.”
The ad’s origin is unknown – but it’s clearly out of the US, and features reality stars Reza Farahan (Shahs of Sunset) and Game of Thrones’ Thor Bjornsson,
“SodaStream is a brand that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and is always looking for ways to create moments of joy – and April Fools Day is the perfect time to do it,” says SodaStream NZ marketing manager Shannon Zaloum.
“We had heaps of fun combining forces with Noel Leeming, Briscoes and Mitre 10 to spread the message about SodaSoak on Facebook and add realism to the prank. It worked a treat, there were lots of people excited to purchase one!
“Unfortunately it’s scientifically impossible to carbonate your bath at this stage – but nevertheless, SodaStream is always looking for sustainable ways to make sparking water more accessible and fun!”
