Fairfax Media New Zealand has announced the appointment of Brett McMeekin as National Events Manager. McMeekin has been permanently appointed to the role after nine months covering maternity leave for Denise Armstrong.

Fairfax Media NZ Chief Marketing Officer, Campbell Mitchell says he is delighted Armstrong will be back on board shortly – she has chosen to return in a new role as Events Manager – Food, to lead the growing portfolio of events in this area.

Mitchell says McMeekin’s appointment is a reflection of the success he’s had in the role to date, launching several new events – including the Night Noodle markets in Christchurch and Wellington – and growing the team to support the expanding portfolio.

“As we find new ways to extend how we connect with our local communities, events have become an increasingly important part of our business and it’s in capable hands.”

McMeekin is delighted to be remaining at Fairfax Media permanently.

“My passion for events has been woven throughout my career, and I’m excited about the challenges of launching new events in a highly competitive industry.

“Fairfax Media has a longstanding connection to its local communities which makes it well-placed for the future. I’m thrilled to be a part of this by bringing first class experiences to Kiwis through our events.”

McMeekin has spent over 20 years working across large corporates, including Lion Nathan and Spark (formerly Telecom). He has also spent time agency side, heading up the New Zealand business for Dentsu AEGIS (formerly Carat New Zealand).

Fairfax Media runs a growing portfolio of iconic Kiwi events, including Ports of Auckland Round the Bays, Central Districts Field Days as well as the newer Night Noodle Markets and the Christchurch Summer Starter.
