Arrivals & Departures: The Warehouse imports Yahoo US marketer

The Warehouse Group has appointed Jonathan Waecker into a newly created role of chief marketing officer. Reporting to group ceo Nick Grayston, Waecker will oversee all the group’s marketing and communications activities, leading brand strategy and driving customer engagement for The Warehouse Group and its brands.

Nick Grayston says it is crucial that The Warehouse Group maximises its marketing and communications capabilities to deliver for its customers.

“Jonathan will help us to build capability in personalised, automated marketing communications as we move our mix away from traditional analogue channels into digital,” Grayston said in a release out this morning.

“His deep understanding of customer data and analytics to drive marketing performance and revenue, coupled with his strong background in helping consumer brands define and engage with their customers, makes him an ideal fit for this role,” Grayston said.


“Prior to Yahoo, Waecker spent time in global marketing roles at Zynga and The Walt Disney Company.”

Prior to joining The Warehouse Group, Waecker was based in San Francisco as vice president of marketing communications at Yahoo, the fourth largest online property in the world, reaching over one billion users every month.

In that role he led the fully integrated team responsible for delivering all marketing communications during a critical turnaround period for the company, winning numerous industry awards, while driving revenue and results for the business and brand.

Prior to Yahoo, Waecker spent time in global marketing, brand strategy and business development roles at Zynga and The Walt Disney Company. He has been named one of Brand Innovators 40 Under 40, received an MBA in Corporate Strategy from HEC Paris, a second MBA in Global Finance from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and graduated from San Diego State University.

He started with The Warehouse Group just one week ago, on November 2, after relocating to New Zealand with his family to join the team in Auckland.
