For the third year, Sky TV and its customers, with help from DDB, will play a leading role in raising funds for the Starship Foundation. This year the funds raised will help Kiwi babies avoid Sudden Unexplained Death in Infancy (SUDI) with the Pepi-Pod programme.

During October, Sky customers can choose to upgrade to seven popular Sky channels for just $5 each.  Every dollar raised will go straight to the Starship Foundation in support of the Pepi-Pod project, to provide a safe sleeping environment for babies and reduce SUDI.

The seven premium Sky channels on offer for $5 each are SoHo, Rialto, Country TV, Star Plus Hindi, Arts, Sky Sport and if a viewer already has Sky Sport, the Rugby Channel.

The campaign aims to raise more than $100,000 like it did in 2012 and 2013, enabling the purchase of hundreds of Pepi-Pods.

“The implementation of the Pepi-Pod programme will provide a safe sleep space for our most vulnerable infants for every sleep, every night, in every location,” said Dr Alison Leversha, Starship’s community paediatrician, and Chair of the ADHB Child & Youth Mortality Review Group.

Kirsty Way, communication director at Sky said it was a great opportunity for Sky customers to help make a difference to children throughout New Zealand and enjoy some great entertainment at the same time;

“We are passionate supporters of the Starship Foundation and this year we’re aiming to raise at least $100,000 again in what has become an annual promotion.

“Our customers have always been very generous in supporting these campaigns and we are sure they will do so again this year. Every dollar raised will go directly to the Starship Foundation.”

Starship Foundation CEO Brad Clark says Sky’s ongoing support is hugely appreciated. “Starship is our national children’s hospital, and as such, touches many, many children and their families from all over the country. We are very appreciative of the strong partnership with Sky and the brilliant support from Sky customers. We urge everyone to take advantage of this fantastic offer and help fund the life-saving Pepi-Pod programme.”

Sky has been an active supporter of Starship since 2001, says Way. “We provide free Sky channels like Nickelodeon, Disney, Disney Jr, and Cartoon Network to the Starship Hospital to help entertain children. In addition, Sky provides extensive support for the foundation’s regular fundraising events, including donating auction packages. We also provide television advertising time for Starship Foundation campaigns and love to surprise and delight children in the hospital with visits from characters like SpongeBob and Dora.
