WPP-owned JWT NZ has bought a majority stake in Wellington digital indie Heyday. Heyday’s services include digital strategy, visual design, user experience design, content development, digital film, smartphone apps and web application development.

Key clients include ANZ Bank; Trade Me, and Z Energy.

Heyday was founded in 2000 by founder/managing director Luke Pierson, and employs 35 people. Pierson, who was a finalist in this year’s Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, will stay on as managing director.

The deal was announced to the London Stock Exchange yesterday, the culmination, says JWT managing director Simon Lendrum, of discussions he began with Pierson two years ago.

The move, which allows both companies significant synergies and growth opportunities across Auckland and Wellington, is a core part of JWT’s on-going growth plan in New Zealand.

This acquisition marks a further step towards WPP’s declared goal of developing its networks in fast-growth markets and sectors.
