AUCKLAND, Today: Make-A-Wish Aotearoa has kicked off its annual fundraising campaign, aiming to turn dreams into reality for critically ill Kiwi kids across the country.
They’ve been granting life-changing wishes since 1986—offering hope, strength and a spark of joy not just to kids, but to their families, donors and volunteers too.
Thanks to that generosity, thousands of wishes have come true. But right now, 70 more are stuck in limbo—waiting for the funding to make them happen.
That stat hit hard, and inspired the team at Chemistry to create The Waiting Room—a powerful new campaign that brings these wish stories to life.
They worked closely with the Make-A-Wish crew to capture the most common dreams—from superhero adventures and fairy parties to celebrity meet-ups and pilot-for-a-day experiences.
Each wish was styled and shot in vivid detail, starring Kiwi faces like singer Michael Murphy and football ref Beth Rattray to show what’s possible with support.
The campaign puts 20 real wishes front and centre, reminding us all that 70 more are stuck waiting—and it’s up to us to help change that.
“It’s an honour to work with such an impactful New Zealand charity… The Waiting Room combines bold creative with top-tier fundraising efforts.” – Beatrice Bearne
“Our mission is to grant the wish of every eligible child – and Chemistry’s proven ability to create powerful donation campaigns made them the clear choice,” said Melinda Seal.
“The Waiting Room is a completely fresh approach to fundraising for Make-A-Wish Aotearoa and we can’t wait to see the impact it has around the country.”
Beatrice Bearne from Chemistry added, “It’s an honour to work with such an impactful New Zealand charity… The Waiting Room combines bold creative with top-tier fundraising efforts.”
The campaign’s everywhere this May—across outdoor, print, digital, social and radio. But it doesn’t stop there.
Michael Murphy, moved by the experience, wrote a song inspired by the campaign. Titled The Waiting Room, it even features his 8-year-old son Archie.
Archie’s best mate had their wish granted, making this project especially close to home. You can listen to the song and help clear The Waiting Room too.
Donations can be made at makeawish.org.nz. Every bit helps bring a little more magic to those who need it most.
