AUCKLAND, Today: Snow’s coming to central Auckland thanks to Mons Royale, who’ve just opened their flagship store in the heart of Britomart.

The high-performance merino brand is now officially in the North Island, bringing mountains, motion, and natural fibre to the city crowd.

“From snow to streetwear, we’re thrilled to be opening a retail space in New Zealand’s biggest city,” said Co-Founder and Creative Director, Hannah Acland.

“This will be Auckland’s portal to the mountains. We know many Aucklanders are passionate about the outdoors, and this space gives them everything they need for their next adventure.”

Located at 5 Gore Street, the store stocks Mons Royale’s full kit — from technical base layers to stylish outerwear, underwear, and alpine accessories.

It’s not just about shopping. The space also delivers real-time snow reports from Tūroa, Treble Cone, Whistler and Innsbruck.

“The driving force behind designing the space was to bring nature and energy together, allowing the product and the material to speak for itself,” said Hannah.

“Historically, the brand has been really strong in the Northern Hemisphere. We currently sell more gear in Zurich than we do in Auckland so opening this space feels like a really appropriate homecoming and an opportunity to continue to grow our roots and community here in Aotearoa.”

Founded in Wānaka in 2009 by Hamish and Hannah Acland, Mons Royale now has a global following and presence in nearly 1,000 stores.

Unlike others shifting online, Mons is investing in physical stores — adding Wānaka and Whistler to the mix last year.

“Physical stores are working really well for us,” said Mons Royale CEO and Co-Founder Hamish Acland.

“They’re more than just retail spaces, they’re community hubs and a statement of who we are. We’ve built a great brand reputation and after 15 years, our customers know they can rely on us for sustainable, high-quality gear for whatever mountain mission they’re planning.”

The store officially opened on Friday 16 May with Après tunes, drinks, giveaways and a Snow Starter Kit for the first 50 customers.

One lucky shopper from opening weekend will also score a $1,000 Mons voucher — basically getting their entire purchase for free.
