AUCKLAND, Today: HOYTS is stepping up its cinema game with 539 new D-BOX haptic recliners across 19 auditoriums — including eight brand new sites across Australia and New Zealand.
These aren’t just any seats. The D-BOX experience offers super comfy recliners that move in sync with the action on screen, so audiences literally feel every twist, turn, and explosion.
Each seat comes with its own control panel, giving guests the power to personalise how much motion they want. It’s all about creating that can’t-get-it-anywhere-else kind of cinema vibe.
HOYTS Group President and CEO Damian Keogh said the expansion helps meet growing demand and brings the experience to even more movie lovers.
“People are looking for more than ‘just a movie’ when they come to our cinemas. They’re after unique experiences that can’t be replicated anywhere else,” Keogh said.
“Whether they’re watching the latest horror movie, blockbuster or even musical comedy, our guests are after an immersive cinema experience and D-BOX haptic seats deliver just that.

“The opportunity gives guests the chance to not just ‘see’ a movie but to ‘feel’ it, which gives HOYTS the edge in what is an extremely competitive space.”
Over the next year, HOYTS will increase its motion recliners by 70%, bringing the total number of D-BOX-equipped auditoriums to 44. This marks a major milestone in the six-year partnership with D-BOX Technologies, pushing the global total to more than 1,126 installed or planned auditoriums.
D-BOX Interim President and CEO Naveen Prasad said the company is ready to meet growing global demand for immersive cinema tech.
“HOYTS continues to be an exceptional partner in elevating the cinema experience through innovation. This expansion deepens D-BOX’s presence in Australia and New Zealand and reflects our shared commitment to delivering experiences that drive both audience engagement and business results,” he said.
“We are proud to deepen our collaboration with HOYTS and to help create lasting value for both companies and for moviegoers.”
