AUCKLAND, Today: World Chocolate Day on 7 July isn’t just about sweet treats—it’s also a moment for Whittaker’s to reflect on nearly 130 years of chocolate-making magic, right here in Aotearoa.

Holly Whittaker, Whittaker’s co-Chief Operating Officer and great-granddaughter of founder JH Whittaker, says they’re proud to craft world-class chocolate on Kiwi soil.

“We especially want to acknowledge our team at our one factory in Porirua, our local and international suppliers of the finest ingredients we use to make our chocolate, and our Chocolate Lovers who give us honest feedback so that we can continue to innovate and improve on what we do,” says Holly.

This year also marks 75 years of the legendary Peanut Slab. First made in 1950, it’s still rocking the same original recipe—no wonder it’s such a classic Kiwi fave.

“It’s exciting to think Chocolate Lovers across New Zealand and around the world may be celebrating World Chocolate Day with Whittaker’s.” – Holly Whittaker

Matt Whittaker, Holly’s brother and fellow co-Chief Operating Officer, says they’re always looking to balance heritage with fresh ideas and flavours.

“We think it’s that combination of old and new, as well as staying true to our values as a family-owned business of an uncompromising commitment to quality and an ethical supply chain, that our Chocolate Lovers value,” says Matt.

Everything is made from beans-to-bar at their one Porirua factory, using 100% Rainforest Alliance Certified cocoa and no palm oil. Just the good stuff.

They’ve been voted New Zealand’s Most Trusted Brand for 14 years running—and now they’re spreading the chocolate love in Australia, Canada, Malaysia, China, and more.

“It’s exciting to think Chocolate Lovers across New Zealand and around the world may be celebrating World Chocolate Day with Whittaker’s,” says Holly.
