Not all bargains are created equal – but this one is

AUCKLAND, Today: Bargains are everywhere – but let’s face it, a lot of them suck. Dodgy quality, hidden catches, or straight-up disappointments. It’s all more regret than reward.

That’s why Bargain Box is making noise. As New Zealand’s most affordable meal kit, it’s showing Kiwis what a real bargain looks like – no tricks, just tasty.

The new campaign, from creative agency Yarn, pokes fun at all the bogus bargains out there. Think claw machines and million-dollar do-ups – straight to the bin like a dud in Willy Wonka’s factory.

“The current economy is making it tough for Kiwi families, with Kantar research showing just how cautious we’ve become with spending — and how actively we’re seeking out special deals,” says Anya Saikkonen.

“We’re proud to be New Zealand’s most affordable meal kit, and we want to highlight that as well as delivering on price.”

“We’re proud to be New Zealand’s most affordable meal kit, and we want to highlight that as well as delivering on price, you also get quality ingredients, fresh local produce, free-range meats, and a weekly menu full of crowd-pleasing recipes.”

Rich Robson from Yarn puts it simply: “Anyone who’s played a claw machine knows the feeling of being lured in by the promise of a bargain, only to walk away with a very expensive squishy toy.”

“There are so many instances like this out there, and we wanted to clearly separate Bargain Box from them. So we created a fun, colourful world where we could bin the bad bargains and celebrate Bargain Box as a real Bargain Win.”

The campaign is now live across TV, radio, outdoor, digital and social – with playful ‘Bargain Bin vs Bargain Win’ media placements driving the message home.
