AUCKLAND, Today: MediaWorks is expanding The Breeze family with Breeze Classic, taking over Magic’s FM frequencies from 1 November.

Dedicated to era-defining hits from Queen, Fleetwood Mac, Abba and Elton John, Breeze Classic promises listeners a nostalgic escape filled with timeless tunes that mark life’s biggest moments.

Fronting the new station will be familiar Magic voices Mark McCarron, Mel Homer, John Markby, Murray Lindsay and Trudi Nelson.

Leon Wratt, MediaWorks’ Director of Content, says the change was guided by audience feedback. “Over the past year, we’ve been asking listeners what music they want. Some wanted a more classic hits playlist, while others wanted one that’s more contemporary.

“This is an exciting new chapter for the Breeze where we can deliver both listeners and advertisers more of what they want.” – Leon Wratt, MediaWorks’ Director of Content

“So our solution is to launch Breeze Classic for those who love the classics from the late 60s, 70s and early 80s, while Breeze continues to play hits from the 80s, 90s and 2000s.”

The move allows The Breeze to grow as a master brand—broadening reach while staying connected to loyal local audiences through its existing presenters nationwide.

“This is an exciting new chapter for the Breeze where we can deliver both listeners and advertisers more of what they want,” says Wratt. “The Breeze has always evolved with its listeners, and we’re confident this next era will continue to drive engaged, loyal communities across Aotearoa.”

Magic will continue on the rova app, hosted by Bob Gentil, and will focus on nostalgic favourites from the 50s and 60s.

Breeze Classic launches nationwide across 25 FM frequencies and on rova from 1 November.
