DDB NZ and Barnes Catmur & Friends both won Gold at the APAC Effie Awards in Singapore on Friday – and DDB got a nose out in front with a third in the Agency of the Year category. DDB and Barnes Catmur also scored two Silvers, followed by Y&R and Clemenger BBDO Wellington with one Silver apiece.

DDB cemented itself as No 1 Kiwi agency at the awards with two Bronzes.

DDB head of planning Lucinda Sherborne said: “The APAC Effies rewards the region’s most outstanding campaigns that have proven success in meeting clients’ strategic objectives. We’ve been awarded accolades across three different clients which is particularly thrilling and being named third agency overall in the Asia Pacific region is a feat we’re bloody proud of.

“None of this would have been possible without our awesome team and fearless clients who’re open to taking risks and jumping on-board with our big ideas.”

Stihl marketing manager Stace Hall said: “A Gold at the Effies for sustained success is pretty incredible. We’re very proud of the result and honoured that the campaign DDB and Stihl have come up with has been recognised as world-class work.”

Barnes, Catmur & Friends ECD Paul Catmur said: “This win is a great follow up to being rated the #1 Independent Agency in Asia-Pacific and #5 Worldwide last week by the Effie Index.

“We’ve been in the top five worldwide for three years now, and this is our second year at #1 in Asia-Pacific. It’s nice to see New Zealand agencies like ourselves, Colenso, FCB, and DDB making such a strong impact internationally in effectiveness. It says good things about the state of our local industry.

CEO Daniel Barnes said: “We’ve tried from the start to build a more effective business model. So far, so good.”

The awards were attended by 170 marketing professionals from around the region. The winners emerged from 92 finalists across 36 categories.

Ogilvy & Mather was named the Agency Network of the Year, and India was the biggest winner walking away with 18 awards, including the Grand Effie, followed by Australia and New Zealand with 15 and 11 awards respectively.

Awards Chairman Jarek Ziebinski said, “’Awarding Ideas that Work’ may sound like a simple concept but winning an APAC Effie is more than just an accolade. It is an affirmation of being the best in the Asia Pacific region, a true recognition of an agency’s expertise in delivering marketing campaigns that work and achieve results. This is the core reason our creative industry exists. It also further validates a successful two-way collaboration between clients and agencies and the synergies that arise from it.”

The APAC Effie Awards is organised by the Confederation of Asian Advertising Agency Associations (CAAAA) and Tenasia Group.

The winners and finalists will be accorded points that will add to their ranking in the Effie Effectiveness Index (http://www.effieindex.com), a global ranking of effective marketers, brands, agency holding groups, agency networks, agency offices and independent agencies.
