AUCKLAND, Today: Breakfast just got a glow-up. Abe’s Bagels has launched New Zealand’s first high-protein bagel—same chewy, tasty goodness, but now with a nutritious twist for people who like their mornings strong.
The new Protein Bagel is made for health-conscious types, gym junkies, and anyone wanting to stay full longer without sacrificing flavour. It’s ideal post-workout or on the run.
Each bagel packs in 12 grams of pea protein—about the same as two eggs or 250g of Greek yoghurt. It’s plant-based, easy on the tummy, and has all nine essential amino acids.
Plus, it’s got 30% fewer carbs than your standard bagel and clocks in at just 206 calories per serve. Not to mention a whopping 17.6 grams of fibre—half your daily intake, sorted.
So why go all-in on protein now? Abe’s research shows 28% of shoppers are checking for protein when making food choices—especially among the health-focused crowd.

“The demand for protein packed foods is soaring, especially among gym goers and women as research continues to show just how important protein is for health conscious consumers,” said Catherine Parlane, Head of Marketing at Abe’s Bagels.
“That’s exactly why we created the Protein Bagel – it’s full of the good stuff people want, while keeping the classic flavour and chewiness we’re known for.”
Protein-packed breakfasts have been linked to better appetite control, muscle support, and boosted energy and focus throughout the day.
“Protein is on the rise globally and even celebrities like Khloé Kardashian are jumping on board, with the star just launching her own protein popcorn. We’re excited to introduce a delicious option for fuelling active lifestyles and we can’t wait to see our Protein Bagels flying off the shelves,” Parlane added.
Abe’s Protein Bagels are available now in supermarkets and food outlets across Aotearoa, with an RRP of $5.50 for a 4-pack.
