AUCKLAND, Today: Animates took a huge step for pet safety this week, presenting the Pawprint Petition to MP Greg Fleming outside Parliament – backed by a massive 173,152 signatures.[lightbox selector=”.Animates-0625″ opacity=”0.875″ prev_scale=”0.75″ prev_opacity=”0.75″ next_scale=”0.75″ next_opacity=”0.75″ orientation=”horizontal”
The petition is calling for a ban on public fireworks sales. And yes, some of those signatures came from paws – because this campaign was open to both people and pets.
Launched late last year, the petition quickly gained national traction. It highlighted the stress fireworks cause for pets, wildlife, and farm animals – and Kiwis clearly agreed it’s time for change.
Leading the charge is Animates, working with agency partners Hearts & Science and Insiders to bring the idea to life across digital, media and real-world channels.
“This isn’t just about one loud night of the year – it’s about protecting animals from weeks of anxiety, injuries and fear.” – Nathalie Moolenschot
“The level of support we’ve seen from Kiwis has been incredible,” says Nathalie Moolenschot, GM – Marketing at Animates.
“This isn’t just about one loud night of the year – it’s about protecting animals from weeks of anxiety, injuries and fear. We’re proud to stand alongside the 173,000+ voices calling for meaningful change.”
The campaign combined smart media, storytelling and public engagement – plus a fun twist where pets could literally add their pawprints to the petition.
Now that it’s officially before Parliament, the petition is part of a bigger push to keep fireworks safe, public, and professional – for people and pets alike.
