AUCKLAND, Today: Movie lovers packed cinemas across the country last weekend, making it the biggest box office result since June last year, according to Val Morgan Cinema.
Over just four days, 245,000 tickets were sold nationwide. That surge was led by Jurassic World: Rebirth, which brought in 87,000 admissions and banked $1.7 million on opening weekend.
F1: The Movie came in second with 44,000 admissions in its third weekend. How To Train Your Dragon grabbed third spot, adding 37,000 in its fourth week.
That makes How To Train Your Dragon the top-grossing film in the franchise so far in New Zealand—a huge milestone for the family favourite.
“It’s an exciting time for brands to get involved and make cinema a key part of their marketing strategy, especially with the depth of great content coming out during the holiday and Christmas period.”
“When great content arrives, audiences respond, and last weekend is a prime example of that,” said Matt Tremain, Sales Director of Val Morgan Cinema New Zealand.
“We’re off to a strong second half of the year, with a slate full of blockbuster franchises and major releases that are building real momentum.
