AUCKLAND, Today: Cardrona Alpine Resort has been crowned New Zealand’s Best Ski Resort in the 2025 World Ski Awards, a first-time win for the iconic South Island destination.

The annual World Ski Awards celebrate the best in global ski tourism, with finalists chosen through public and industry votes across 25 top ski nations. This year, Cardrona finally claimed the national crown after more than a decade of nominations.

“It’s an honour to be awarded Aotearoa’s Best Ski Resort in 2025, as voted for by the people who matter most to us – our guests and our industry,” says Cardrona and Treble Cone Chief Mountains Officer, Laura Hedley.

“This is a huge recognition for all the people who make Cardrona what it is; the mahi put in by our team to deliver an excellent experience on the maunga, and our community who make this place special. We’re so grateful and proud.”

The win rounds off a big year for Cardrona. The resort added 150ha of new terrain and a new chairlift in Soho Basin, officially becoming New Zealand’s largest ski area.

A new Base Area building also opened, complete with Noodle Bar, retail shop, and a t-bar serving high-performance training facilities – including Australasia’s only World Cup Slopestyle course.

And there’s more to come. This summer, the team is pressing ahead with Soho Basin developments, including new snowmaking infrastructure, trail work, and upgraded roads and carparks.

“It’s one thing to be awarded the best in New Zealand, and it’s another to maintain the high standard we aim for,” says Hedley. “Every year we try to raise the bar, working hard to improve both our offering and our manaakitanga for all who come here to work and play.”

Cardrona reopens for summer on December 13, offering mountain biking, mountain carting, and hiking across its world-class terrain.
