Val Morgan Cinema shines a light on family audiences

AUCKLAND, Today: Val Morgan Cinema has released new research showing why the cinema continues to be one of the strongest places for brands to connect with family audiences.

Called Famous For Families, the study looks at how cinema fits into modern family life and the value those shared experiences can create for advertisers.

The research draws on audience and box office data, online surveys with moviegoers, and in-depth interviews with families.

It found that shared family time is highly valued, and cinema remains one of the few places where families actively choose to spend time together.

That gives brands a rare chance to reach different generations at once, with messages experienced together and perceptions shaped collectively.

The research also points to growing demand for shared experiences as households navigate an increasingly fragmented media landscape.

The Owl Insights Director Matt Sandwell says cinema continues to stand apart because it delivers that shared attention in a way few other channels can.

“Families are actively seeking opportunities to spend meaningful time together,” said Sandwell.

“Cinema delivers a shared experience where everyone is engaged with the same story at the same time. That creates a powerful environment for brands to be experienced as part of moments families genuinely value.”
