AUCKLAND, Today: Special PR is bringing on industry heavyweight Liam Taylor, who’s set to join the Auckland office as Business Development Director from 12th May 2025.
Taylor co-founded DARKHORSE in 2012 and recently stepped down as Creative Director and Founder. Now he’s making the leap to join Special PR’s growing team.
At Special, he’ll focus on strengthening the New Zealand portfolio while driving growth and chasing down new business opportunities across the board.
Liam’s known for challenging norms, building strong team cultures and delivering impactful, strategic work — making him a strong fit for the agency’s next chapter.
Special PR Managing Director Kelly Grindle says, “Special PR experienced rapid growth in its infancy, and as we shift into this next phase, we want to do so responsibly.”
“This means investing strategically in our senior leadership for the benefit of our team and clients. We couldn’t think of anyone more suited for the role than Liam.”

“His depth of experience and creative brilliance will help further cement Special PR’s work as a global benchmark for the industry.” Liam’s ready for the change and excited to get stuck in.
“Building an agency from the ground up was an incredibly rewarding experience that connected me with outstanding people and clients. Now feels like the perfect moment to step into a new chapter with Special PR.”
“I’ve long admired their ability to marry strategic insight with world-class creative execution, and I’m looking forward to being part of their ambitious and growing team.”
His appointment follows another senior hire — Jessica McColl, ex-Mango Experiential, came on earlier this year as Head of Brand Experience.
Liam will be based in Auckland and can be reached at liam.taylor@specialgroup.co.nz.
