DDB was not bypassed

“Dear Ed: The headline statement that DDB was bypassed for this work is incorrect and it would be great if you could amend it,” writes DDB NZ ceo Justin Mowday.

“We were excited to be appointed to the L&P account two weeks ago. DDB was not bypassed for this work, it predates our appointment on this account.”

Wait. There’s more …

L&P Chilli & Lime
“Dear Ed,” writes Acumen Republic account director Alysha Dingle “Thanks for posting the L&P article – looks great. However, there are a few inaccuracies I would like to raise with you.

It would be great if you could update these asap in the online version please, as the article is incorrect in its current form.

Saatchi & Saatchi were working on this campaign long before the agency relationship was under review and DDB were appointed. L&P is very happy with the campaign that Saatchi developed for the L&P Chilli & Lime flavour.

In this instance, it would be misrepresentative to say that L&P “bypassed” DDB, or that DDB was “sidestepped”, as this was absolutely not the case. Can we please get the headline and first paragraph updated to reflect this?

Lastly, Emily Thorn did not say anything similar to: the company’s incumbent creative agency – presumably DDB – will be involved in the wider advertising campaign for the new look rollout and the new flavour.

As per the email she sent you to follow-up on your conversation and confirm answers to your questions, her response was: “Saatchi & Saatchi were the ad agency responsible for this particular campaign.”

Thanks in advance for updating the article and sorry for any confusion.”

L&P said:

  • Marx Design is our preferred packaging design agency who designed the packaging for both L&P Chilli & Lime AND the new look L&P.
  • Saatchi & Saatchi completed the L&P Chilli and Lime ATL and BTL creative months ago.  I’m very happy with the campaign.
  • DDB has only recently been appointed.
  • No-one has been overlooked or bypassed for this project.  As you know, companies work on campaigns in advance of launches.
