AUCKLAND, Today: Stuff Group scooped up 11 of the country’s top journalism prizes at the Voyager Media Awards, including Digital News Provider of the Year — for the second year in a row.

Editor-in-chief of Stuff.co.nz, Keith Lynch, also walked away with Editorial Leader of the Year. A huge night for the newsroom.

Judges praised Stuff’s use of video, tech and nimble storytelling — saying it stood out in a stacked lineup alongside finalists nzherald.co.nz and rnz.co.nz.

The win landed just a day before Nielsen figures showed Stuff.co.nz remains on top, with 2,316,000* Kiwis choosing it for news in April — 417,000 ahead of its nearest rival.

Stuff Owner and Publisher Sinead Boucher said global platforms could never replicate the power of local journalism.

“What we see with all of the Voyager winners is a commitment to local storytelling that is critical to life in New Zealand.” – Sinead Boucher

“What we see with all of the Voyager winners is a commitment to local storytelling that is critical to life in New Zealand. This can only be achieved with the support of our commercial partners, subscribers and supporters who ensure we can continue to deliver journalism which has a tangible impact on the lives of all New Zealanders.”

Stuff’s haul included Political Writer of the Year for Andrea Vance (The Post), plus two big wins for Steve Kilgallon — Best Scoop and Best Investigation.

Other winners on the night: Iain McGregor (Photographer of the Year, The Press), Sharon Murdoch (Cartoonist of the Year, The Post and The Press), and Charlie Mitchell (Feature Writer of the Year, The Press).

Lynch stood out for his leadership and long-term vision.

“Not only was he impressive as a leader, but he also had a strong strategic future vision for Stuff focused on bringing high quality journalism to life in ways that made it distinctive from other news offerings in the market.”
