Nando’s has opened its flagship restaurant at 360 Queen St, a move the company says adds impetus to its current marketing strategy.

Nando’s agency in NZ is The Gravity Bureau – a division of The Gravity Bureau LA. The Auckland agency’s manager is

Riaan Schmulian (address details below).

“Nando’s has kicked off a partnership with My Kitchen Rules this season which has seen us gaining exposure across a number of platforms,” says NZ general manager Garth Parker in a release supplied by Schmulian.

“Along with a TVC that airs during the show, we are working with MKR to curate weekly content, hosted on their website and shared across MKR and Nando’s social media platforms.”

The Behind the Grill videos feature contestants completing challenges such as creating “the perfect flame grilled chicken and ultimate burger”.

“These videos are allowing us to engage with a new audience of foodies and give us an opportunity to educate Kiwis on Nando’s across the restaurant menu and also recreating our PERi PERi flavours at home using our grocery range,” Parker said.

“Social media definitely continues to be a focus for us moving forward, building our fanbase and engaging with our audience.

“We’ve attached a competition to win a trip to our heartland, South Africa, to the content to create further interest,” said Parker. “The trip will be a true Nando’s experience where the winners will have lunch at the original Nando’s in Rosettenville, Johannesburg, visit our art studio in Cape Town and tour our chilli farm in Mozambique.  It’s a true once in a lifetime opportunity.”

The new 150-seat outlet is located opposite Aotea Square on the corner of Queen and Wakefield Streets.

“The latest addition to the network of nearly 30 restaurants across New Zealand will feature all of Nando’s menu favourites served on beautiful crockery and will also bring a touch of Nando’s sunny Afro-Portuguese roots to the city through original African artworks on the walls, Afro-Luso music and bold colour clashes and patterning throughout,” Parker said.

The flagship restaurant kicks off a long-term project which will see restaurants across New Zealand refurbished and refreshed to drive Nando’s positioning as the leader in the fast casual dining category.
