AUCKLAND, Friday: The inaugural NZ Podcast Awards has launched today, to recognise the work of independent and professional Kiwi podcast producers across the country and abroad.
The winners will be unveiled on Sunday 7 November.
Awards co-founder Richard North said: “Podcasting is growing in New Zealand, and it seems only right that it should have its own industry awards programme.
“The awards are an independent venture, but support from the industry has been strong, with Rova (Mediaworks) on board as the principal media partner.
“The inaugural NZPA launches with 12 categories, including a Listeners’ Choice award. Judging will be performed by digital media industry leaders from New Zealand and around the world, including some of the earliest AU/NZ employees of Google, YouTube, TikTok and Spotify, as well as entertainment powerhouse, CAA.
“The awards have been created as an independent and neutral platform to support the entire podcasting industry in New Zealand, from large publisher and radio networks through to emerging and established independent podcasts.
“The awards are an independent venture, but support from the industry has been strong, with Mediaworks’ Rova on board as the principal media partner.”
“These awards are for the Kiwi podcasting community. We’re here to promote your shows, help you reach new listeners, reward quality content and celebrate our growing industry.”
The New Zealand Podcast Awards aim to be an annual event.
Rova content director Richie Culph said: “As podcast creators and superfans we think it’s incredibly important to celebrate our local and independent voices, so when Rova was asked to support the first NZ Podcast Awards, it was a no brainer”.
