NZME today unveiled its plan to take its Mix radio brand to the South Island. “We identified a market opportunity in Christchurch to create a station that meets the musical tastes of 30-54 year olds,” said Mix content director Raylene Ramsay.

“Mix 91.7 Christchurch will have a playlist running from Madonna’s Like a Virgin to Coolio’s Gangsta’s Paradise,” she said.

Madonna, Prince, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, INXS, Robbie Williams, George Michael and Ricky Martin alongside gems from the ’80s and ’90s  that you won’t have heard on the radio for a very long time.

“We’re finding all the best songs – and then pressing shuffle. The team is thrilled to launch Mix in Christchurch and offer people an exciting music alternative.”

At the moment, the Mix format exists only in Auckland (at 98.2FM). NZME has yet to release further details, but it’s likely the South Island station will carry the signal from Auckland while it looks for at least some local staffers.

Mix Christchurch goes live next Monday (June 15) on localised frequency 91.7 FM (and will be streamed live on iHeart Radio).
