AUCKLAND, Today: Whittaker’s is marking a huge milestone — 75 years of the iconic Peanut Slab. It’s been made to the same classic recipe since 1950, and Kiwis have loved it from the very first bite.
The treat was created by Maurice Whittaker, part of the second generation of the Whittaker’s family. It’s packed with crunchy roasted peanuts and wrapped in that signature 33% cocoa milk chocolate.
Co-Chief Operating Officers, and fourth-gen siblings, Holly and Matt Whittaker say the Peanut Slab’s popularity comes down to quality — and a very generous helping of peanuts.
“We’ve got a lot of dedicated long-term fans of our Whittaker’s Peanut Slab, many of whom see it as something quintessentially kiwi and associate it with special memories, so we’re delighted to share this occasion with them.” – Matt Whittaker
“We’ve got a lot of dedicated long-term fans of our Whittaker’s Peanut Slab, many of whom see it as something quintessentially kiwi and associate it with special memories, so we’re delighted to share this occasion with them,” says Matt.
To celebrate, Whittaker’s is hiding two gold slabs in stores nationwide from 30 June. Whoever finds them scores a VIP trip to Wellington — including a behind-the-scenes tour of the Porirua factory.
There are also 75 silver slabs up for grabs. Each one comes with 75 more Peanut Slabs — enough to keep any Chocolate Lover happy for a while.
“While there are only a limited number of prizes out there, we hope Chocolate Lovers who don’t find one enjoy indulging in their Whittaker’s Peanut Slabs anyway, as their way of getting into the spirit of this celebration,” says Holly.
