Up to 10 redundant at 99

AUCKLAND, Today: Covid 19 is starting to really bite among NZ agencies – the latest to be forced into cuts is Clemenger Group’s retail shop 99.

Unsurprisingly, proud agencies aren’t into publicising their difficulties, but an anonymous reader alerted us to the redundancy breakout at 99. When M+AD enquired, Clemenger Group PR shop Porter Novelli issued this statement …

“Sadly, there have been some redundancies at 99 during 2020; like the rest of our industry Covid has affected our business.

“Troy Fuller, managing director of 99 and Raydar, was not one of those affected and is still employed by the Clemenger Group of companies.”

ECD James Mok also appeared to emerge unscathed.

Fuller’s and Mok’s names arose because the original tipster claimed “the MD and ECD” were among the casualties.

Clemenger Group Ltd financial controller Chris Pescott is now also somewhere in the management mix at 99, although he did not return our call, and the Porter Novelli release chose not to respond to this query.

Kiwibank pitch?
Our anonymous tipster also claimed: “Kiwibank fired 99 late in 2020, triggering around 10 senior redundancies.

“Kiwibank are currently pitching the account with three locally owned agencies in the mix – Special, Shine and Federation.”

At press time this morning, M+AD had been unable to confirm Anon’s Kiwibank pitch claims – and Porter Novelli did not address this question in their release.
