AUCKLAND, Today: Sky is stepping up the game for sports fans across Aotearoa with 4K Ultra High Definition (UHD) coverage now rolling out on the new Sky Box, Pod, and Sky Sport Now.
Coverage kicks off with The Ashes on 21 November, followed by the Australian Open in January — both streaming in stunning 4K UHD. More premium sports for 2026 will be announced soon.
Nikki Goodman, Chief Customer Officer at Sky, says: “Kiwi sports fans are passionate and discerning, so we’re proud to be delivering them an immersive viewing experience with 4K UHD. Our investment in UHD means fans can look forward to enjoying the drama of the Ashes and Australian Open in sharper detail and richer colour.”
Subscribers using the new Sky Box or Pod with a 4K-ready TV will get a dedicated Sky Sport 1 UHD channel at no extra cost. The channel mirrors Sky Sport 1’s schedule, showing native UHD coverage where available, and upscaled HD content when not, for consistently sharper viewing.

When multiple live events stream in UHD, Sky will introduce pop-up 4K channels so fans won’t miss a moment of the action. Those still on the older black Sky Box can upgrade free to the new one and enjoy 4K UHD, along with On Demand features and more.
Sky Sport Now is also launching a Premium Month Pass, giving access to the Sky Sport 1 UHD channel and any 4K pop-up channels. At launch, users can upgrade to the Premium Month Pass free for a one-month trial. After that, it’s available for just $5 extra per month.
Annual Pass holders will get access to 4K UHD content included in their subscription at no extra cost.
Pubs, clubs, and commercial venues with the new Sky Box or Pod can also tune in to the Sky Sport 1 UHD channel free, ensuring fans everywhere can enjoy sport in next-level clarity.
