AUCKLAND, Today: Snapchat has introduced Home Safe, a handy new feature that lets you automatically notify a friend when you’ve arrived home – no more forgetting to send a message after a big night out.
Whether you’re coming back from a date, a packed gig, or a weekend away, Home Safe gives friends and family peace of mind knowing you made it home safely.
Privacy comes first with Home Safe. Alerts only go to friends you’re already sharing your location with, and they’re one-time notifications that switch off automatically. Snap Map location sharing is off by default unless you choose to enable it.
Ryan Ferguson, Managing Director, Snap Inc. Australia and New Zealand, said: “From the very beginning, Snapchat was designed to prioritise safety and wellbeing, and with a community of over 1.5 million Kiwis using our platform to connect with family and friends every month, that commitment is more important than ever.

“We all have those moments when we want to let friends and family know we’ve arrived safely, but remembering to send a message can slip your mind. Home Safe alerts help take care of that, offering a seamless way to share that little bit of certainty with the people you trust most.

To use Home Safe, just set your home location by tapping your Bitmoji on Snap Map, then “My Home.” This is visible only to you and any friends you’ve chosen to share your location with.
When you’re out and want to trigger an alert, open your chat with a friend, tap the Map icon <insert icon>, and then hit “Home Safe.” It’s that simple.
Snap Map already connects over 400 million people each month, helping them share moments and discover places nearby. Last year, Family Centre added location sharing for parents, and now Home Safe adds another layer of reassurance for Snapchatters on the move.
