Meet the team behind Axis 2019

AUCKLAND, Today: The Comms Council has named its executive team to run Axis 2019 – Shane Bradnick (convenor), Paul Wilson (chair), and jury presidents Brigid Alkema, Jonny Kofoed, Aaron Turk, and Regan Grafton.

Entries are now open, and the winners will be announced at the awards show in Auckland on Thursday 14 March (scroll down for the links).

Shane Bradnick, executive creative director, DDB: He’s worked in advertising for 20 years, starting as an art director at DDB and then TBWA South Africa before immigrating to Australia to join M&C Saatchi Sydney, and then BMF. In 2013 a move to New Zealand saw him back at DDB.

Internationally and locally he has created famous and effective work for McDonald’s, Speight’s, Steinlager, Lotto NZ, BMW & Mini, Cadbury, Sky TV, and Westpac.

He’s has won over 200 awards at Cannes, D&AD, Spikes, One Show, AWARD and Axis. He has also been named one of the best art directors and executive creative directors in the world by The Won Report.

Outside of advertising, he is said to live a quiet life with his wife, two sons and an orange bitey cat named Steve.

Paul Wilson, managing director, Saatchi & Saatchi: Wilson joined the agency in 2013 from Colenso BBDO and quickly helped bring creative success, through his leadership of the team that created Tui Beer Plumber and later Tui Catch a Million.

Throughout his 20-year career, he’s worked at some of NZ’s best agencies and developed a body of work that has won Cannes Lions and D&AD Pencil,s as well as many local creative and effectiveness awards.

He lives with his wife Van and two kids.

Brigid Alkema, executive creative director, Clemenger BBDO: Alkema first found herself at Clemenger BBDO Wellington in 2000 (after a stint in Sydney at DDB and Clemenger).

After consistently being ranked as one of Australasia’s top creatives, she became Clemenger BBDO’s ECD in 2015.

She has been a jury member at Cannes, D&AD, The One Show, New York Festivals, Spikes, Webbys, AdStars, AWARD and Axis, and has been awarded at every major award show.

Jonny Kofoed, Director of Motion & Design, Assembly: Kofoed’swork spans film, animation, design, interactive and visual effects projects, and alongside traditional advertising, he has created lighting installations, directed music videos, designed games, film titles and an iPhone app that can be used while wearing boxing gloves.

Snce Assembly opened its doors eight years ago, he and his company have collected Yellow Pencils at D&AD and multiple Gold Lions at Cannes along the way. He’s a regular on juries locally and internationally, and loves the judging process.

Aaron Turk, creative director, Little Giant: Before joining Little Giant, Turk spent 10 years helping drive Colenso BBDO’s approach to digital, seven years at Tribal DDB guiding brands through the dot-com boom, and five years at Terabyte Interactive (before the internet even existed!)

He’s created campaigns for Pedigree, Anchor, Gatorade, Air New Zealand, Nike, V Energy, Volkswagen, and Samsung.

He’s been a judge at Cannes Cyber Lions in 2007 & 2014 and has picked up gongs at Cannes, Spikes, the DMAs, Caples and Echos.

Regan Grafton, chief creative officer, Ogilvy: Before joining Ogilvy, he worked as ECD at FCB NZ and as creative director at DDB NZ. He’s been ranked No 6 in the world (2014 Won Report), and has 36 Cannes Lions to his name.
