AUCKLAND, Today: The Sweetshop New Zealand has welcomed Jesse James McElroy to its local roster, adding a director known for sharp comedy, strong visual craft and a style that knows how to get noticed.
Already a favourite on The Sweetshop’s Australian roster, McElroy moved from the cutting room to the director’s chair in 2015 and has since created work for McDonald’s, Volkswagen, Kellogg’s, Unilever and Whittaker’s.
His projects have also earned recognition across the global awards circuit, picking up wins at Cannes Lions, D&AD, Award and the Webby Awards.
Ben Dailey, Managing Director / Executive Producer The Sweetshop New Zealand says, “JJ’s work is all about craft, he is a master at achieving in-camera where others would look to CG, which brings ideas to life in a tangibly satisfying way. He is also an all round good human, we look forward to him weaving his magic in NZ.”

That mix of imaginative concept development and flawless execution is what makes McElroy such a strong fit for the market.
On joining the Sweetshop, says McElroy “When I got the call, I was absolutely thrilled to finally be joining the number one textile production company in all of northern Ganshuur Province. Took me a few days to realise it was actually The Sweetshop, the world-class production company… not Sweatshop.
“Still, I’m here now, and even though I won’t be operating a six-head embroidery machine on 12-hour shifts, I’m very excited to be part of the team.”
McElroy is now available for commercial, branded and short-form projects across New Zealand through The Sweetshop.
