TVNZ drops Masterchef NZ

Masterchef New Zealand has been an outstanding performer for TVNZ – but now the network has decided to bring the series to an end. “Viewers are increasingly demanding innovative new content formats and our significant commitment to new local productions is a reflection of this trend,” says programming chief Jeff Latch. “This also means we have to say goodbye to some existing older formats. We’ve decided not to renew MasterChef NZ.”

“It’s had a great five-season run but it’s time for us to move on to newer local multi-night opportunities.”

Masterchef has at least partially fallen victim to the increasing popularity of TVNZ’s new cooking show, My Kitchen Rules NZ.

“We’re delighted with the performance of our first series of My Kitchen Rules NZ which is the most watched show in a highly competitive timeslot and is successfully holding The Block and X Factor’s performance in check,” says Latch.
