AUCKLAND, Today: The 34th annual YouTube NZ Marketing Awards, hosted by NZ Marketing magazine and the NZ Marketing Association, filled Spark Arena on September 3 with a celebration of creativity, impact and talent.
International judge Thomas Barta summed it up, “The top brands stood out this year by transforming the way people act, buy and choose.” Vogel’s claimed Brand of the Year with work that “moved wallets” as well as hearts.
Spark New Zealand was the night’s biggest winner, scooping four awards for Spark Game Arena Live, held in September 2024:
- Supreme Marketing Excellence Award
- Excellence in Sponsorship Strategy
- Excellence in Travel/Leisure & Entertainment Marketing Strategy
- Excellence in Utilities/Communications Marketing Strategy
The New Zealand Herpes Foundation also turned heads, winning three trophies for its cheeky and impactful campaign Make New Zealand the Best Place in the World to Have Herpes.

The campaign secured:
- Excellence in Healthcare/Beauty Marketing Strategy
- Best Not-for-Profit Marketing Campaign
- Best Use of Video Marketing Campaign
Team of the Year went to Zuru’s powerhouse 60-strong in-house marketing crew, while individuals also shone on the night.
Matthew Pickering, ANZ Bank New Zealand’s general manager marketing, was named Marketer of the Year. Simran Wadhawan of Goodman Fielder won Marketer of the Future, and Lion NZ’s Craig Baldie joined the Marketing Hall of Fame.
Industry stalwart Keith Norris, who has given more than 50 years of service, was honoured with the very first special Lifetime Achievement Award—much to his surprise.
Australian DJ CYRIL closed out the night, bringing Spark Arena to life with his global hits, including Stumblin’ In and his viral remix of Sound of Silence.
In total, 35 awards were handed out.
