AUCKLAND, Today: Sir Sam Neill, renowned New Zealand actor, is the new Ambassador for Campaign for Wool NZ (CFWNZ). He’s on a mission to promote the wonders of New Zealand’s strong wool.

As a fourth-generation Kiwi and acclaimed actor, Sam Neill has graced screens globally and won numerous awards throughout his extensive career. He was knighted in 2022 for his contributions to film and television.

Off-screen, Sam is passionate about wool, running a farm in Central Otago complete with sheep, cattle, and his wine brand, Two Paddocks. He’s deeply connected to wool, celebrating its merits whenever he can.

“I spent a lot of time working in woolsheds as a young fellow,” says Sam, “and they were some of the best days of my life. There are very few experiences you can have that are more New Zealand by nature.

“Sam understands wool, he’s already a huge advocate for wool, and he’s genuine in his quest to share its myriad beneficial qualities with his audience.” – Kara Biggs

“Today, I am a sheep owner and my Suffolk sheep produce strong wool. Every time we shear I am reminded about what a great product that is – durable, warm, sustainable and biodegradable, but somehow undervalued. And it comes from happy sheep. There is nothing like it.”

In his role at CFWNZ, a charity supported by wool growers and commercial partners, Sam will help produce visual content highlighting the natural, comfortable, and sustainable qualities of local wool.

Kara Biggs, CFWNZ’s General Manager, couldn’t be more excited about this partnership. “Speaking with Sam, his passion and vision for New Zealand strong wool couldn’t be more clear. Sam understands wool, he’s already a huge advocate for wool, and he’s genuine in his quest to share its myriad beneficial qualities with his audience.

“We are so grateful to Sam for making time for Campaign for Wool and helping us share the message that New Zealand strong wool is magic!”

Sam joins fellow ambassadors in the wool advocacy, including designer Liz Mitchell MNZM, architect Stephen McDougall, and interiors specialist Robert Macfarlane.

“I am very happy to be associated with, and a grower of, one of the world’s best products,” Sam concludes, marking the start of his ambassadorship.
