ZB, More, Edge, The Rock, Breeze shine

Almost 80% of New Zealanders aged 10 years and over listen to commercial radio each week, according to the results of the latest radio survey conducted by GfK. Newstalk ZB headed the network breakfast audiences, followed by More FM, The Edge, The Rock, and Breeze.

The second Total New Zealand Commercial Radio Audience Measurement Survey was conducted over 24 weeks and sampled 9608 people aged 10+ across the whole of New Zealand.

Department of Statistics estimated population data at 30 June 2015 indicates approximately 4,010,000 people aged 10+ years live in New Zealand. The Total New Zealand Survey shows over 3,172,100 or 79.1% of them listen to a commercial radio station each week.

Survey 2 has shown that commercial radio continues to thrive, delivering compelling results across key demographics. Highlights include:

  • People 10-17: 75.1% listen each week
  • People 18-34: 79.3% listen each week
  • People 25-44: 83.6% listen each week
  • People 25-54: 84.3% listen each week
  • People 45-64: 81.4% listen each week
  • People 55-74: 76.8% listen each week
  • Grocery Buyers: 81.3% listen each week

Breakfast radio (Monday to Friday 6am-9am) delivers the strongest audiences across New Zealand with over 2,435,900 people 10+ tuning in across Monday to Friday of an average week.

Breakfast results show Newstalk ZB Network with the highest share – 12.7% of commercial radio breakfast listening, followed by More FM Network with 9.3%. The Edge Network is third with 7.8% share of commercial radio breakfast listening, followed by The Rock Network on 7.5%, and Breeze Network is fifth with 6.9%.
