Leading New Zealand public relations & strategic communications agency Pead PR has promoted Sarah Munnik to the position of managing director, replacing Becky Erwood who has stepped down to embark on a new business venture.

Deborah Pead, founder and ceo of the agency, says this is a natural career move for Munnik who has demonstrated her leadership in the company. “Sarah joined us two years ago and as group account director for the agency’s technology, entertainment, corporate & lifestyle divisions,” Pead said.

“Sarah is a proven leader with a flair for developing people and winning new business, including the Huawei account. Sarah has the vision to continue the evolution of the agency into the world of integrated communications and influencer marketing.”

Sarah Munnik said: “I’m thrilled to take on the new challenge of leadership within Pead PR, an agency where I’ve felt right at home since my first day.

“I’ll be looking to further grow the business, especially seeking out opportunities within the integrated content, influencer marketing and high technology environment where New Zealand is punching well above its weight on the international stage.

She points out that information technology is the country’s third biggest export earner after griculture and tourism. “At Pead PR, we’ve got the credentials and the capability to take the stories of this vibrant and growing industry to the world.”

“In her spare time, she is a marathon runner, Pilates instructor and netballer, having represented South Africa in two Action Netball World Cups.”

With 14 years of public relations experience, Munnik has a reputation as a leading communications professional.

She moved to New Zealand from South Africa two years ago and has led multiple accounts including high-profile technology accounts during her career such as Huawei, Kordia, Cisco, Amazon Web Services, NetApp, Twitter, Citrix and Intel.

Pead says Munnik is highly regarded both within the company and by clients for her strategic development skills. “It’s always satisfying when a business has a solid succession plan and news of Sarah’s appointment has been well received.”

Munnik qualified Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Rand Afrikaans University in 1999. She holds a PR Diploma from London Chamber of Commerce and Industry and in 2015 gained the African Excellence PR Award in the technology and consumer electronics category.

In her spare time, she is a marathon runner, Pilates instructor and keen netballer, having previously represented South Africa in two Action Netball World Cups.

Munnik succeeds Becky Erwood, who has left Pead PR to pursue other opportunities.  “I personally want to thank Becky for the terrific contribution she has made in accelerating the evolutionary changes in our business and for her support as MD in the past 18 months,” Deborah Pead said.

“This is a fascinating time for our industry and an exciting time for Sarah who has a clear vision for sustaining  the growth and reputation of Pead PR and I’m delighted she is joining me as an executive director of the company.”
