Malware agency a threat to website revenue

The Government has effectively taken a swipe at the NZ ad business by setting up something called the Computer Emergency Response Team (aka Cert), a state agency that is urging consumers to install adblocking software.

Cert’s main target is malware – but in promoting adblockers, it’s bound to make life tougher for news websites, which of course rely on ad income to drive their services.

M+AD and other ad-trade media are fortunate in that their target market – advertising companies – and adblocking software are unnatural bedfellows.
