Adschools put 2015 on show

Auckland’s two creative advertising schools are this month taking a different approach to their end-of-year shows of their students’ best work.

AUT Adschool’s Portfolio Night this Tuesday (10 November) is a game of two halves – from 5.30-7pm it’s industry only, then from 7-8.30pm the show’s focus shifts to friends and fans.

MDS AdSchool’s event a week later (from 6-8.30pm upstairs at Mexico in the Britomart on Tuesday 17 November) has a total focus on the industry.

“No friends, no relatives – just industry,” says MDS CD Kate Humphries. “If they’ve worked as hard as they should’ve done this year they should have no friends left, and their relatives won’t be speaking to them.” Invites will be going out later this week, but any ad industry talent spotter will be welcome.

AUT Adschool CD Paul White: “The story behind the invitation is that when we were talking to a certain agency about teams it was interested in, we asked if we should put a Reserved sign on their end-of-year portfolios and the agency replied, ‘No, put a sold sign on them’.”

The venue for AUT Portfolio night is the Sir Paul Reeves Building (Entrance Level 3) at 2 Governor Fitzroy Place. Invites not necessary – but an RSVP to paul.white@aut.ac.nz would go down well.
