Auckland based design company Alt Group has been honoured with three accolades in the AGDA Awards in Canberra.

The AGDA Design Awards recognises the best work happening in Australia and New Zealand, celebrating all that is good in the creative world across every generation of talent.

Alt Group won Distinction Awards for two projects: Silo Theatre 2017 in the Photography Design Craft category and Untitled Posters in the Print Posters category. The Silo Theatre photography also caught the eye of New York based judge and designer Leta Sobierajski, taking out a Judges Choice award.

The photography for Silo Theatre’s 2017 season was designed to embody the company’s reputation for contemporary, avant-garde theatre, says Alt Group founder/director Dean Poole.

The inspiration behind the images also stemmed from the company’s 20th birthday, which coincided with the 2017 season launch. This called for imagery that communicated the concept behind each of the season plays while nodding to the ‘ghosts’ of Silo Theatre’s past.

“The Untitled Posters showcase the fonts Untitled Sans and Untitled Serif, designed by renowned NZ type designer Kris Sowersby.”

The result is a series of vibrant and surreal images showcasing figures that are part ghost, part emoticon and part surreal landscape.

The Untitled Posters were constructed to showcase the fonts Untitled Sans and Untitled Serif, designed by renowned New Zealand type designer Kris Sowersby of Klim type foundry.

The Untitled fonts were exhibited in Auckland at the re-launch of the Objectspace Gallery.

Alt Group founder and director Dean Poole said: “We’re pleased that the work for Silo Theatre is once again being recognised in an international forum. It’s crucial for the arts community and our emerging design culture to be celebrated both at home and overseas,” he said.

Alt Group’s own up-and-coming designer Luke Scott served as a judge on the panel for the Student Award. Already making waves in the design community for his own work, Scott was just one of four New Zealanders invited to the weeklong judging process to assess and curate the finest design offerings of the year.

A New Zealand creative company standing firmly on the world stage, Alt Group has won more than 500 design awards to date.
