Seasoned adman Grant Maxwell is joining the Wellington arm of digital marketing specialist Uprise Digital to add more clout to the agency as it continues to grow its client base and influence.

He joins from Y&R Wellington where he was GM Media as Client Services Director.

Uprise has grown more than 400% over the last three years, and was named 10th Fastest Growing Company in New Zealand on Deloitte’s Fast 50 list in 2015.

Maxwell is already a familiar face around the Uprise office, being a good friend of founders Tim Pointer and Matt Rowe, and he was the catalyst for the current strategic partnership between Uprise and Y&R.

Tim Ellis, Y&R’s Wellington Managing Director, reinforced this partnership: “We’re excited for Grant in his new role at Uprise,” Ellis said.

“We joint venture with the Uprise team on a number of key clients, so while we might farewell Grant from our building, we will no doubt continue a very strong working relationship with him over the road at Uprise.”

The move to be part of the day-to-day operation will see Maxwell focus on managing and growing existing client relationships and identifying new opportunities for Uprise.

“My interests lie in measurement and accountability for digital communications so the move to Uprise is a perfect fit,” says Maxwell (who will be representing Uprise on the judging panel at the TVNZ NZ Marketing awards in September).

“As Client Services Director I’ll be working with our current clients to help improve our offering to them and working with the rest of the Uprise team to tweak a customer’s digital strategy to ensure they are getting the best results possible.

“I was attracted to Uprise because they are genuinely helping companies do better business online, and that – doing better business, and being genuine – is what excites me.”

Uprise co-founder Tim Pointer says Maxwell is perfectly placed to support the company’s future growth plans.

“We’ve got big ambitions both here and abroad and having someone of the calibre of Grant will help us ensure our clients remain at the centre of everything we do as we grow,” Pointer said.

Uprise has been named a finalist – for the second year running – in the Gold Awards, which recognise inspiring Wellington businesses.

Erin Berryman joins BDM Grange (Updated)

Erin Berryman, formerly a senior account executive at Freemans Bay agency Beat Communications, has joined BDM Grange – NZ’s largest distributor of beauty and personal care products.

She may be leaving the ad sector – but marketing is a core activity at BDM, and advertising and communications will still be her focus. “Actually, my position at BDM Grange is Brand Manager and Digital/Communications Coordinator – so I’m very much in the communications space still,” she told M+AD.

“The acquisition of several new brands and a new retail division has prompted the need for a communications practitioner to work across our digital strategy and communications,” said BDM MD Andrew Berryman.

“Brand principals are increasingly requiring their brands to have a strong digital presence in New Zealand. Currently, we are underutilising this realm and we will be appointing Erin to oversee this space”
