The Public Relations Institute has tapped Wellington PR practitioner Katie Mathison as its new president, replacing Bruce Fraser, who has held the role for the past two years.

Mathison becomes president after a year as president elect and several years as the national coordinator for the institute’s accreditation programme, APR.

Mathison has over 20 years’ experience in non-government and government sector management in New Zealand. She is currently general manager membership at the Royal NZ College of General Practitioners. In the past, she’s worked for the NZ Customs Service, Food Safety Authority, Energy Efficiency & Conservation Authority, Meat & Wool NZ, DoC and the Commerce Commission.

“I’m looking forward to representing PRINZ and the excellent work it does for the profession to uphold standards and encourage continual professional development pathways,” she said.

“PR and communications professionals work very much behind the scenes to enhance reputation and relationships. Done well, it’s a position of quiet trust and confidence, not glory and limelight.”

PRINZ Fellow Brenda Saunders ends her term as chair of the Fellows College, and is replaced by Fiona Cassidy, PRINZ Fellow, former president (2007-2009), and Global Alliance Delegate at Large.
