Auckland-based production company Sunday Punch has added award winning writer-director Cathy MacDonald to its roster.

“So thrilled to have Cathy on board. She’s such a talented storyteller with seasoned cinematic sensibilities – we welcome Cathy to the ring.” says EP, Nikki Smith.

“With a cross-platform perspective and a talent for creating truthful, targeted content, Cathy brings a more sensitive angle to the predominantly comedic Roster.”

Originally from Auckland, Cathy spent nearly a decade in London, winning Young Creative of the year in Europe for her first-ever directing job. She went on to direct major campaigns for the BBC, Disney, MTV and Sky across global markets, developing branded content for audiences across the US, Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Australasia.

She’s been recognised by leading film festivals for her delicate touch with complex human stories, and by Promax and the New York Festivals for her brand campaigns. She won the International Graduate Scholarship to do her Masters in Screenwriting from Central Saint Martins College London.

In 2015 she was selected from a global field of nearly 4500 directors by the Weinstein Company as a finalist in the Lexus Short Film Competition.

Says MacDonald “There are simply no words to describe how excitedly enthusiastic I am to be joining such an illustrious and talented team, and what I hope to bring to the Sunday Punch business.”
