Bauer Media has launched a new free weekly magazine, Paperboy. It will have a distribution of 100,000 and will be targeted at a broad “optimistic” Auckland readership.

Published every Thursday morning, Paperboy will be distributed through channels such as public transport points, letterboxes and cafes around the city.

“Paperboy is a magazine for the New Auckland – a rapidly evolving place that is no longer an overgrown provincial town, but a fully fledged multicultural South Pacific metropolis,” says editor Jeremy Hansen (formerly ed at Bauer’s Home magazine).

Hansen says the magazine will be optimistic, urbane and super-connected, sharing expert knowledge about the city’s best happenings in food, culture, style and urbanism.

“Auckland is a more exciting city than it has ever been,” he says. “In this era of infinite online information, we think there’s more value than ever in a carefully curated media brand that makes it easy for an enormous range of Aucklanders to feel fully engaged with their city.”

He says Paperboy will aim to inform its readers about everything from the way cycleways are changing the city to new restaurant openings, from bold new architecture downtown to neighbourhood discoveries that only an insider would know.

Paperboy’s local offerings will be bolstered by four pages of exclusive feature content from the New York Times Life/Style section.

Bauer commercial director Paul Gardiner said: “The new magazine will expand Bauer Media’s mass reach and give the company extra heft in the Auckland market. Its streamlined production processes offer new options for advertisers.

“We’ve developed a number of production innovations that means Paperboy can take advertising material late Monday, and be in readers’ hands on Thursday mornings.

“This means Bauer Media now has a powerful new media brand to offer advertising clients a huge Auckland-centric audience for both premium brands and short-term, retail-focused reactive advertising.

“Bauer Media’s research shows that 46% of Aucklanders feel prouder now of their city than they did 10 years ago. Every Thursday, Paperboy will tap into this enthusiasm, offering readers the toolkit they need to enjoy their lives in the city they love even more.”

Paperboy will debut in Auckland on Thursday 3 November.
