BBC Worldwide has promoted its Sydney-based vice president for NZ & Australian ad sales Alistair McEwan to director of advertising sales and brand partnerships.

McEwan has managed advertising and sponsorship sales for BBC.com, as well as international advertising sales for BBC World News, since July last year, including a push for native advertising partners in the region.

In his new role McEwan will set up a cross-platform media sales department for all advertising sales and brand partnership sales in the region. And he will oversee BBC Worldwide’s joint venture with Bauer Park Publishing for the Top Gear magazine and website.

“Alistair’s role will enable us to offer more cross-platform advertising solutions to clients,” BBC Worldwide AANZ managing director Jon Penn.

BBC Worldwide has also promoted its head of business and legal affairs Fiona Lang to chief operation officer for Australia and New Zealand in a round of promotions across the regional team.

Lang joined the BBC over two years ago after working in private practice where she advised broadcasters, publishers, distributors and new media clients, working with media companies such as Foxtel.

Irene Read, head of TV sales at BBC Worldwide, has been promoted to director of TV sales and part of the executive leadership team. Read now takes on full leadership responsibility for the licensing of TV programming and news in the region.

Also on the executive leadership team are Melissa Maden, director of brands and marketing; Rob Leach, director of business development and consumer digital; Laura Dumbrell, head of communications; Natalie Edgar, director of television and Naomi Mourra, head of HR.

BBC Worldwide ANZ is currently recruiting for a director of finance.

“These new roles are a reflection of the company’s changing needs as it builds new partnerships in the market,” Penn said.

Based in Macquarie Park, Sydney, BBC Worldwide Australia & NZ wholly owns three Australian channels (UKTV, BBC Knowledge and CBeebies), and two in NZ (UKTV NZ and BBC Knowledge NZ – both broadcast on the Sky platform).
