Be prepared

The Earthquake Commission, with help from their friends Y&R NZ, has launched its latest campaign to encourage Kiwi families to prepare their homes for earthquakes and to develop protection strategies  should a seismic event occur.

The campaign, which launched this week, depicts a diverse cast of New Zealanders taking action in everyday scenarios to protect loved ones and passers-by from coming to harm – like moving the handle of a boiling pot out of the reach of children or closing the gate on a pool fence.

The Fix. Fasten. Don’t Forget public education campaign launched across online, magazine and free-to-air (with a 45sec tvc and a 15sec cutdown). The communications direct consumers to the EQC Fix. Fasten. Don’t Forget website, which has easy-to-follow steps on how to secure property including tall furniture, valuables and ornaments, and hot water cylinders.

“EQC has an important role in helping encourage Kiwis to take action and prepare their homes for earthquakes. They can happen anywhere and anytime, so it’s incredibly important that Kiwis think about it and prepare”, says Suzanne Carter, EQC’s General Manager Communications and Public Education. “One small action now could make all the difference.”
