Following a trans-Tasman competitive pitch process, Carat Australia has retained the media planning responsibilities for beauty giant, L’Oréal, with the agency’s remit now also expanded to include New Zealand (where FCB was the incumbent).

The unsuccessful pitching agencies were Zenith and Wavemaker (GroupM)

Carat (part of the Dentsu Aegis Network) was originally awarded the account in Australia in 2013, taking over from UM as the agency of choice for the country’s leading beauty brand.

The agency will now also look after the New Zealand market via its Auckland office, with the addition of search and performance responsibilities across both markets.

L’Oréal Australia & New Zealand media director Lyndall Campher said: “We were impressed by the standard of all the submissions and presentations, however, Carat showed  great insight and understanding of our business as well as the challenges that we face.

“We are thrilled to succeed in consolidating the account with our trans-Tasman colleagues in an incredibly competitive pitch.”

“In addition, we are really pleased to have been able to consolidate our media investment with Carat so as to have a truly integrated approach across all our paid media channels.”

L’Oréal NZ marketing & category director Shannon Watts said: “We are excited to be starting a new partnership with Carat, tackling the challenges of the dynamic NZ beauty market through world class media strategies and campaigns”

Carat Auckland general manager Alex Lawson said: “L’Oréal is one of the most respected and valued companies in the world and we are excited to now be working with them in New Zealand.

“The team are thrilled to have been successful in consolidating the account with our trans-Tasman colleagues in what was an incredibly competitive pitch. I’m really proud of what they achieved and the continued growth we have experienced at Carat this year.

“We can’t wait to get started.”

L’Oréal’s NZ creative agency was most recently listed as 99.
