AUCKLAND, Thursday: More than a dozen Colenso BBDO fulltime staffers – including ECD Steve Cochran and CD/head of art Mike Davison – have taken voluntary redundancy deals, the result of the financial fallout of Covid-19.

The agency has yet to make any public announcement but both Cochran & Davison have confirmed their departure to Aussie site Campaign Brief. The identity of the others cast adrift remains to be revealed.

“I’m now available for lawn mowing and bathroom feng shui consults.”

In a parting message to staff, Cochran said: “Colenso, like many other agencies, is having to look carefully at the books and make some calls to see them through the coming period of economic uncertainty.

“And they want to do that with an eye to the future.

“Seems these are extraordinary times we all find ourselves in. And they make for some extraordinary measures.

“For a number of reasons now does feel like the right time to have a change.”

Davison said: “I’m now available for lawn mowing and bathroom feng shui consults.”

Colenso response
Just before deadline, Colenso comms director Joe Carter confirmed to M+AD the 12 voluntary redundancies – but did not respond to our request for names.
