Australasian film co Goodoil has signed comedy director Dave Wood for representation in Australia and New Zealand. Wood has a particular appetite for comedic storytelling and loves getting his hands on a strong premise.

“There’s nothing better than a funny idea,” he said, in a release. “It informs everything that comes after it. A well-handled character or moment should always serve the premise to make the idea funnier and more memorable.

Wood has won shiny metal things at Award, Axis, LIA, New York Festivals, British Arrows and is a keen Lion hunter.” “I like work that’s a little more subtle, where a hint of reality and plausibility are maintained and all elements cleverly work hand in hand.

“Breaking stuff is fun too.”

Sydney-based Goodoil executive producer Sam Long said: “Comedy directors of Dave’s ability only come along once in a very long while. Dave’s Bo spot for Rexona and Geoffrey for Battersea are great examples of a director knowing their craft and how to get the most out of an idea.

“To say we’re excited about Dave joining the roster would be an understatement.

“Having spent time working abroad in London and now happily residing back in Australia, Wood has won shiny metal things at Award, Axis, LIA, New York Festivals, British Arrows and is a keen Lion hunter.”

Wood’s producer Lee Thomson will join him at Goodoil.
